Protesting the Martial Law/Emergency

It took the Martial Law/Emergency to bring me back to the blog. As a token of protest I’ve brought about a simple change. My blog is now colorless, much like my beloved country. If you are a Pakistani blogger and are able to follow suit, I suggest you do the same.

You would also notice that links are colored when you hover your mouse over them. Again very symbolic. You look behind the obvious, and you’d see hope.

It’s not much of a protest but sitting out of country, there is nothing much I can do but such small tokens.

I just hope democracy is restored as soon as possible.

New Wordpress Theme - Fiasco

Aite, here we go. Finally something to post after a long time. Have been busy making this theme which I’m calling Fiasco (Picked up the name from Elizabethtown). Its still in beta right now as I haven’t fixed some styling for the default WP-Calendar available via the Widgets.

Fiasco SC

One thing to note is the use of transparent PNGs and therefore the obvious exclusion of IE6 as a supported browser. Some may disagree that I shouldn’t do that but i guess its a matter of choice. I prefer that IE6 users upgrade to IE7 as soon as possible. Otherwise FF and Opera should be fine.

Have tested this on Wordpress 2.2, but i suppose when i get back to older versions for testing, most of the stuff should work as well.

I will continue work on it some more.

In the meantime you can download the beta version here.

White House or Paki Presidency???

This is one interesting stuff. These are pictures of the Presidency in Islamabad (supposedly) which incidentally looks a lot like the White House from the face not facing the city. :)

A bomb is a bomb nonetheless

Found an interesting comparison between various bombs, big or small, that have been used somewhere in the world.

To be or not to be…

Out here it can be hard to picture the political situation back home and especially the ground realities after what the Hafsa girls have done. The past few weeks have been sad, reading news of Talibanization in my home town, kidnapping of innocent people and issuance of Fatwa against women for hugging men.

And to be honest I wasn’t expecting this response from the public when I first saw the ad for protesting against radical islam. I thought they would be happy if they can get a thousand people gathered at a spot. But I may have been wrong.

After looking at this picture I feel a lot better. Although how many were there to listen to Altaf Hussain speak and how many were there for the real cause remains a mystery, it still gives hope to the ones who think that this country can do a lot more if given a chance.

Awesome cricket ad by Nike

Inzi: Bismillah-ur-Rehman-ur-Rahim … firstly, thanks to Almighty Allah, the boys prayed well …

Interviewer: You mean the boys played well …
Inzi: No, the boys prayed well …

Interviewer: Okay, but they did not play well …
Inzi: No, first comes praying and thanks to Mushy, Saeed Anwar, Yusuf and Junaid Jamshed for leading ba-jamaat prayers …

Interviewer: But you guys are paid to play, not to pray.
Inzi: No, only Bob, Danish and Shoaib Akhtar play because they don’t pray … but thanks to Almighty Allah, rest of boys prayed well, especially Yusuf and Yunus and Rana and myself who were in good praying form and inshallah we will win this year’s Raiwind Tableegh Cup with help from coaching of Mushy and Saeed Anwar. Hotspot Update

Today was the submission of the Hot Spot project. As usual a lot of work went into the last ditch effort to make things look better. Unfortunately the render times for my scenes were taking up to 20 minutes on ordinary lighting situations and I never had the time to really play with good shadows and tweak the lighting a bit more.
