Today was the submission of the Hot Spot project. As usual a lot of work went into the last ditch effort to make things look better. Unfortunately the render times for my scenes were taking up to 20 minutes on ordinary lighting situations and I never had the time to really play with good shadows and tweak the lighting a bit more.

Now i know these are not very good quality renderings and I’d love to spend more time fixing some of the lighting issues, but for now I don’t mind submitting this work.

What took a lot of time was the sheer number of picture frames I had to texture. Somebody someday must come up with a better solution to handling this kind of texture requirements. Maybe one day I’ll write something in MEL to help me out. For now, there are about 150 frames, all with distinct images taken (stolen) from the Hot Spot’s own website.

Render wise, I think should have access to better facilities to experiment with different lighting situations and find out a good blend of Global Illumination and Final Gather. Right now, the color bleeding has basically destroyed all images.
On the whole, for an assignment, this is ok. A big NO for production :) Still have a log way to go, but I must say, I’m liking Maya more than Max.
